Who We Serve

Clear Mind Psychology is located in the quaint town of Rye, NY. We treat children as young as 4 years of age, adolescents, families, couples, and adults and will see NY and CT residents in-person and virtually.

Children Ages 5-12

At Clear Mind, our therapists believe in the efficacy of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for children and view themselves as supportive and knowledgeable conduits of change for families experiencing a wide range of psychological challenges including anxiety, behavioral issues, school refusal, learning challenges, and problems with friendships, amongst others. We look forward to collaborating with you to help provide therapy that will relieve your child’s symptoms and make a constructive plan for the future.

  • Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is the hallmark of good care for children.
  • CBT is collaborative, flexible, and fun.
  • Therapists develop a step by step plan to address day to day problems.
  • Children with negative and inaccurate thoughts often avoid daily situations that might seem easy for others.
Adolescents

Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT) is the cornerstone of Clear Mind’s approach to treating adolescents. Due to the inherent nature of adolescent biology, teens are likely to see the world in extremes which often causes emotional dysregulation and impulsivity. For this reason, Dialectic behavior Therapy (DBT) is the preferred form of treatment. “Dialectical” is a descriptive way of saying that two opposing things can be true at the same time. You can be happy and sad about the same thing within the same moment. Thinking “dialectically” helps us to lean away from “right” and “wrong” and move towards a more balanced way of looking at the world. It’s okay to be happy. It’s okay to be sad.

  • Adolescence is inherently a time when our brains think in extremes.
  • Regulating emotions is a major aspect of difficulties in the adolescent years.
  • Teens social lives have become more complicated as a result of social media and technology.
  • Dialectic Behavior Therapy uses five modules to help adolescents manage emotions, interact with others effectively, and decrease impulsive behaviors.
Young Adults

Emerging adults have the complicated task of becoming more grounded in their identity while moving forward in career and personal aspirations. An unprecedented number of young adults are depressed and disillusioned about their lives. In the age of online dating, working remotely, and the unrealistic lifestyle of Instagram, young adults can feel more isolated than ever.

We also believe in the efficacy of Goal Setting and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, given the stressors of launching into the adult world. Clear Mind finds DBT to be extraordinarily helpful to young adults in building emotion regulation and interpersonal skills and creating more flexible thinking.

  • Emerging Adulthood is complicated.
  • Often young people are struggling to sort out their core identity. Their values, desires and identifications can be a source of confusion and/or stress.
  • Our clinicians offer a safe and warm space to explore these essential core issues.
  • We are always LGBT affirming.
Parents

Parenting has never been more challenging. We, as parents, have the unprecedented task of parenting while working from home, deciphering the meaning of technology in our kids lives, and helping our families survive and thrive during a pandemic, while still facing the typical developmental challenges of each stage of our children’s life. At Clear Mind Psychology, we provide an objective space for parents to share frustrations and concerns, as well as the joys of parenthood. Our work is deeply rooted in an understanding of child development which allows us to assure parents when their children are going through the garden variety challenges of childhood and helps us intervene when a child’s development is lagging or going off course.

  • It takes a village to raise children.
  • Some children are more difficult to parent because of their temperament and sensitivities.
  • The Kazdin Method of Parenting is comprehensive and effective.
  • SPACE training is a form of parent management training that helps parents of anxious children.
